About the Author

Dieter Schmalstieg is professor and head of the Institute for Computer Graphics and Vision at Graz University of Technology (TUG), Austria. His current research interests are augmented reality, virtual reality, real-time graphics, 3D user interfaces, and visualization. He received Dipl.-Ing. (1993), Dr. techn. (1997) and Habilitation (2001) degrees from Vienna University of Technology. He is author and coauthor of more than two hundred peer-reviewed scientific publications, associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, member of the editorial advisory board of computers and graphics and of Springer Virtual Reality, member of the steering committee of the IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality, chair of the EUROGRAPHICS working group on Virtual Environments (1999-2010), advisor of the K-Plus Competence Center for Virtual Reality and Visualization in Vienna, and member of the Austrian Academy of Science. In 2002, he received the START career award presented by the Austrian Science Fund. In 2012, he received the IEEE Virtual Reality Technical Achievement Award for seminal contributions to the field of augmented reality. Since 2008, he is also director of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Handheld Augmented Reality.

 

Tobias Höllerer is professor of computer science at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he leads the Four Eyes Laboratory, conducting research in the four I's of Imaging, Interaction, and Innovative Interfaces. Dr. Höllerer holds a Diplom in informatics from the Technical University of Berlin, as well as an M.S. and Ph.D. in computer science from Columbia University. He is a recipient of the U.S. National Science Foundation's CAREER award for his work on "Anywhere Augmentation." enabling mobile computer users to place annotations in 3D space wherever they go. In 2013, he was named an ACM Distinguished Scientist. Dr. Höllerer is author of more than one hundred fifty peer-reviewed journal and conference publications in the areas of augmented and virtual reality, information visualization, 3D displays and interaction, mobile and wearable computing, and social computing. Several of these publications have been selected for best paper or honorable mention awards at such venues as the IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR), IEEE Virtual Reality (VR), ACM Virtual Reality Software and Technology, ACM User Interface Software and Technology, ACM MobileHCI, IEEE SocialCom, and IEEE CogSIMA. Dr. Höllerer is an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics. Among his many organizational roles for scientific conferences he served as program chair for IEEE VR 2015, ICAT 2013, IEEE ISMAR 2010 and 2009; as general chair of IEEE ISMAR 2006; and as member of the steering committee of IEEE ISMAR.

As a graduate student focusing on AR visualizations for thesis work, I needed an all encompassing reference to provide me with a foundation in AR and point me in the right direction to start development (quickly). Thus far this reference is providing all of the above. Strongly recommended for those just beginning in AR.

Just what I was looking for!

People who order this product do need to understand that it is a definitive and very thorough book on Young Living Essential Oils only. This is exactly what I intended to order, and am very pleased with the packaging, speed of shipping (very fast), the condition of the book (shrink wrapped and mint condition), and the quality of the product itself. The book is hard cover and spiral bound so that it lays flat and is convenient to use because of that. The pages are high quality glossy paper, with many full color prints and informative diagrams. There are also many convenient quick reference charts which cut to the chase if I am in a hurry. The whole book is color coded for convenient use as the colors show on the page edges when the book is closed. This Essential Oils Desk Reference 6th Edition far surpasses my own expectations, even though I had had the book described to me many times. It is very thorough and extremely well written and well documented. In the back of the book, there are several appendices-so helpful, a bibliography, and an exhaustive index. I had been confused by the difference in reviews, as to whether this was the desk reference or the pocket reference. This is a full size desk reference: a bit larger than 9 x 11 inches, and has 810 pages. I am very pleased.

FYI ~ It seems a few who have left comments here are mistaking this as the pocket reference edition . This is in fact the DESKTOP Edition and is much larger. and goes into much more depth . I thought this might take away any confusion arising from such comments.

Overrated

I ordered this book along with a book on Sashiko by Susan Briscoe. This book cost 3 X the price of Sashiko and that would have been okay, however, I could not help but compare the size of the pictures - this book is small and while the pictures are wonderful they are SMALL. The pictures although few of actual boro pieces in the Sashiko book were LARGE and also lovely. Plus, lots of information on the history of running stitches in Japan and tutorials on HOW as opposed to the one liners in this book. The concept of this book is in itself lovely, just a bit too stingy for my taste especially after comparing the two. Even if all I was looking for was inspiration - still, the pictures were too stingy. Might be best to order this book by itself so as not to compare it with another much better book in my opinion.

Hanson was inspired by the interiors of the Lafayette House, a brownstone built in the 19th century that is a place of forgotten beauty, with walls lined in gold-leafed wallpaper--charming, sexy, romantic and private. Its intimate environment elucidates the character of each subject, in a celebration of female beauty and confidence. Hanson collaborated with stylist Susan Winget on these images, casting each woman together. Edition of 1,000 copies.

A book of legend

The Twenty-Fifth Hour is much more known in French than in English; few English translations are available today and it is regrettable that the book was never published in pocket format. Anyway, this book is excellently written in English and provides all English literate people with a unique opportunity to stroll the very special universe of the author, C. Virgil Gheorghiu, read a tragic but beautiful story, and muse over the visionary thoughts of Trajan, the poet who anticipated the world of machines that is being shaped today. A great book.

I read this book when I was in HS and it impacted me greatly then. I wanted to read it again and I understand why it had such an impact on me. It's an excellent, if very tragic, story that resonates with world events even today.

About the Author
Dr. Paul Richer (1849-1933), a distinguished artist and scientist, was a professor of creative anatomy at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and a member of the city's Institute of Medicine.


Robern Beverly Hale (1901-1985), who ended his career as curator emeritus of American painting and sculpture at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, was an instructor of anatomy at the Art Students League for 40 years. His famous lectures, illustrated with life-size drawings that he created on the spot, have been compiled and edited by Terence Coyle and published in Master Class in Figure Drawing. Hale's other books include Drawing Lessons from the Great Masters and Anatomy Lessons from the Great Masters.

a classic for serious figurative sculptors

This book was used as one of two texts in my art school figure study class included in our school portfolio of supplies. It is also a text used in an ecorche course at another art school.

My highest recommendation, is to study this book, along with Frank Netter's medical anatomy book focusing on the osteology and myology sections that apply to artists, leaving behind the details that do not apply to artists. The illustrations in that book are second to none. Also, as many other good artistic anatomy books you can find, as the more you understand, the better.

Lastly, get a good poseable medical skeleton. Yes, save up for it, like I did. It is absolutely essential. A realistic sculptor of the human figure must know the body from the inside out. Pictures alone in books are not enough. You must see the structure of the body in the round.

Then I reccommend getting Bruno Lucchesi's "Modelling the Figure in Clay, A Sculptors Guide to Anatomy". Do the exercises using this book , your skeleton as a model, putting on the bones and muscles, one by one. This is a spectacular learning experience to build your own ecorche (flayed) figure.

It's nice to recover it and reconnect with ideas that were ...

Calder wrote this short book in the early 70's. At the time I was teaching high school and took it in to discuss with coworkers. I made it available for others to read. Most poo-pooed the idea of global warming then and the book disappeared. It's nice to recover it and reconnect with ideas that were out there before there time. Calder goes a long way to describe the warming and eventual cooling process. What he didn't anticipate was carbon overload from human activity.

Overall a good introduction to climatology - several years ahead of its time

Nigel Calder's text provides a pretty good summary of Earth's weather systems and where they come from. It also does a good job of debunking the global "ice age" hysteria that was present in the news media at the time - and in the process it gives one insights into why the climate might be warming right now (hint - it's part of a natural process and it doesn't involve CO2). A classic - wish I could still find my copy.

Basic grounding in the earth's weather system

Nigel Calder is a very good writer for taking large technical knowledge and presenting it in an everyday language. Which helps to understand the topic that he's writing about. The Weather Machine takes you through the system that travels around the world and shows how ideas of how the weather worked have changed over the years. Very educational, but a bit dry in parts.
