Since the Fourth Edition of USB Complete was published in 2009, we've seen the release of USB 3.1 and 10 Gbps SuperSpeedPlus, greatly expanded power delivery options, the all-new USB Type-C connector, improved battery charging protocols, new Audio/Video and USB3 Vision classes, new device controllers from hardware providers, enhanced host support for USB, new options for USB OTG and embedded hosts, and expanded capabilities for the WinUSB driver, to name a few!

These developments are the reason I wrote a Fifth Edition of USB Complete. I've updated the contents from beginning to end. As always, my focus was on providing a single, comprehensive source to guide developers who need to design, program, and communicate with USB devices of all types. I hope you find the book useful.

About the Author
Jan Axelson is the author four previous editions of USB Complete and seven additional books about computers and electronic technology, including Embedded Ethernet and Internet Complete, Serial Port Complete, and USB Mass Storage. Her articles have appeared in Circuit Cellar, EDN, Embedded Systems Programming, and Nuts & Volts.

Great / wide ranging coverage of USB at a number of levels. Like all of Jan's stuff, easy to read and utilize. If you are after a dive into hardware level signaling, it's there and you can use that section by it's self. If you want to start from bits and pieces and finish up with a full blown custom driver, you can do that as well.

If you have the need to do a customized USB hardware device, you need this book. You likely also need a bunch of other stuff as well. The same is true if you are going to write a device driver. You need this book. You also need to understand a lot about writing code. If you are doing a commercial product. There is a *lot* more you will need to do to go from scratch ASIC's to "plug and play on every device on the planet" than any one book can cover.

My only gripe (and it's a very minor one) is that the Amazon description does not really cover the book as well as it might. The book does cover the in's and outs of getting Windows to co-operate with USB. It is not a book on "using C# and Visual Basic". The book is by no means specifically targeted on those two languages. (ok so pretty picky ...).

Is 100% of everything you would ever need to know in this one book? Of course not. You can have a few hundred books on this and related subjects and not cover *everything*. The book goes about as deep as you possibly can without becoming un-usable. It's also here at a pretty reasonable price rather than costing $250 ... (Buy many limited run academic text's lately? They are expensive).

Great book, wish I'd purchased the book as hard copy instead of electronic edition.

I purchased this book on Kindle in order to get a foundational understanding of how USB works, and hopefully a few coding examples. I got exactly what I needed! The book is well organized, complete in its description of the subject matter, and even gave a primer on .NET vs API calls. If you need a quick and complete tutorial, as well as a brief reference guide....this is probably the best book you're going to find. My only unfulfilled wish was that when reading this Kindle book on an iPad, some of the screen capture photos were difficult to read. This may be different if viewed on a Kindle, or on a desktop running Kindle software. I typically purchase my books on Kindle, this one made me wish I'd been patient enough to wait for a hard copy.

The sequel to My Best Friend's Brother, another fast read that deals with making the decision to follow your head or your heart and the consequences. Scarlett and Dev have forgotten to communicate, or chosen not to, and there are always consequences to that too. You can't help but admire Scarlett who stays true to her dream, and deals with her consequences as best she can.

Wow I just did not see this one coming. Following their beautiful coming together story in "My Best Friend's Brother" you really did not expect things to take a turn for the worst for Dev and Scarlett. Throughout their relationship Dev speaks of being afraid of what he could become striving for money and power, and how Scarlett seems to keep him grounded. He is dealing with so many issues and is unwilling to share them with her, and in the end it tears them apart.

Three years have passed and Scarlett has become who she always wanted to be, and now has been offered the job of a lifetime. However, this job comes in New York, the same city where Dev has become the reigning king of banking. This story follows them on their journey together to discover who they are now, and where it all went wrong and if there even should be a future together.

This was a great read and way more action packed than I expected. The characters were well developed and the story really kept you on your toes!

O. C. Ferrell (Ph.D., Louisiana State University) is University Distinguished Professor of Business Ethics at Belmont University. He most recently served nine years as University Distinguished Professor of Marketing and Creative Enterprise Scholar at the University of New Mexico. His academic research focuses on ethical decision-making, stakeholder relationships and social responsibility. He is a leading author in marketing ethics and stakeholder orientation to achieve marketing performance in organizations. Dr. Ferrell is past president of the Academic Council of the American Marketing Association and chaired the American Marketing Association Ethics Committee twice. Under his leadership, the committee developed the AMA Code of Ethics and the AMA Code of Ethics for Marketing on the Internet. He is Vice President of Publications for the Academy of Marketing Science. He has received the Cutco Vector Distinguished Marketing Educator Award from the Academy of Marketing Science. Dr. Ferrell is the co-author of 20 books and more than 100 articles. His articles have been published in the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and The Academy of Management Executive, as well as other journals. Interesting Read for MBA class

Read this for an MBA class. It was pretty enjoyable. The case studies were the most interesting.
I think the Marketing Plan section was a bit overdone for my taste but it was nothing if not comprehensive.

Too wordy, needs to get to the point to help with knowledge development...

This was required reading for an MBA class. The necessary strategic marketing content is included. However, this text is not an overly effective delivery of the content. The authors are entirely too wordy. Every chapter includes droning examples of the covered subject I realize this is offered to help student receive some form of real-world insight. However, it feels like the authors just added a bunch of fluff to increase the size of the text. There is ample opportunity to use more bullet points that would make critical content stand out. Instead, the authors use a "beyond the pages" approach and exhibit boxes. The exhibit boxes are not that bad yet also include way to much information. The exhibit boxes should be re-written to add only vital points to avoid cluttering the delivery and confusing students. I found the beyond the pages examples useless. They may be good stories (or not) yet are only helpful if your professor is testing you using that content.

Overall, I suggest the above formatting and content changes. Again, the content is there and you an learn using this book. I just didn't like it.

this story was really good! It is the story of Jesus' crucifixtion from a tree's point of view. Who woulda thought? I really enjoyed this story and it reminds me that Jesus loves and died for all things.

Brings back my childhood memories on a good value story.

I love this book, I looked everyplace for it. I would give it a 10. However, it is about God and tells the tell of a Rude, tree who takes all the glory, only to meet his king. It is a eye opener, I read it to my 1st graders or anyone who needs a wake up call. All in all I love it.

About the Author
Dr. Duckham is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geomatics, University of Melbourne, Australia. He also currently (2012) holds a prestigious Australian Research Council research fellowship, an ARC Future Fellowship, for research into ambient spatial intelligence. Previously he worked at the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA) at the University of Maine, USA, as well as in the UK (Universities of Edinburgh, Leicester, Glasgow, and Keele). He is a coauthor with Prof. Mike Worboys of the significant advanced undergraduate/postgraduate textbook “GIS: A Computing Perspective" (2nd ed., CRC Press). He has many further related journal and book publications, and he is the Editor‐in-Chief of the Journal of Spatial Information Science (JOSIS).

"Decentralized Spatial Computing" provides a unique compilation of algorithms and analysis tools for large-scale computing systems with a focus on sensor networks. After formally anchoring such systems in graph theory, the book describes a series of standard distributed algorithms that are relevant for this class of systems. Here, algorithms are grouped by their information requirements, that is neighborhood-based algorithms, location-based algorithms, and time-series/memory-based algorithms. All algorithms are accompanied by Netlogo code and rich online resources, making this a perfect resource for practitioners and as a graduate textbook.

What is great about this book is that there simply has not been a single resource to get started on spatial computing, combining the essence of the relevant distributed algorithms, discrete mathematics and systems knowledge, that are needed to understand large-scale distributed sensing/computation networks.
